Dangerous heat and humidity expected this weekend, heat Index values will range from 110 115 degrees across Central and Eastern NC. The Death Ridge will remains fully in control this weekend, the only relief will be isolated thunderstorms. A rare Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for all of Central and will be extended to Eastern NC shortly. Heat index values will be the highest they have been in many years. A high risk for Excessive Heat has been issued for all of Central and Eastern NC for both Saturday and Sunday.
An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of dangerously high temperatures is possible. Prepare for extreme temperatures and high humidity which could result in heat illnesses.
Take extra precautions if you must work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
