Yet another major storm system will bring heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and river flooding to the state Friday into Saturday. Thursday will be a fair weather day then conditions will change Thursday night. Moisture will begin to stream in from the south on Friday morning, one plus to this system is temps will be in the 50s and 60s.
Widespread rainfall totals of 1-2" will be possible, with 2-3' and some areas seeing 4+ along the coast. Due to the heavy snow pack in the Triad and western NC, and the heavy rainfall that fell in eastern NC over the weekend. Localized flash flooding and river flooding will be a concern Friday into Saturday.
In areas affected by recent snow, expect flash flooding concerns as nothing melts snow faster than rain. Additionally, on the back of the departing system Sunday, wind gusts will be problematic as soils are saturated and trees weakened by heavy ice and snow may cause sporadic power outages throughout the state. Mudslides are possible in the mountains due to heavy rainfall and rapid melting of snow.
RIVER FLOODING: River flooding may result on the Yadkin, Rocky, Haw, Cape Fear, Lumber, French Broad River and Neuse Rivers late Friday into the weekend.
