Forecast September 22nd Thursday: One more hot day ahead for at least a little bit

Writer's picture: Ethan Clark Ethan Clark

Feeling like early August today; the 90s stay around for one more day. Happy Thursday, North Carolina! I expect mostly sunny skies; a cold front is approaching, but ahead of it, temps will soar. Highs today will be in the upper 80s to low/mid-90s statewide. Today is the first day of fall; it arrives around 9 PM tonight officially, and that's also when the cold front will move through, ironically. Friday will be a world of difference with highs crashing in the 70s for most, so just hang on one more day before some real fall weather arrives. For the first time in over a week, there's a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm today. Coverage will be about 30-40%; it will not be much and not amount to much, but I can't rule out a few showers or thunderstorms this afternoon, especially across Central and Eastern parts of the state; an isolated storm could be severe with damaging winds.
