Severe Thunderstorm Watch for western North Carolina until 9:00 PM

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for the following counties in North Carolina: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Davie, Haywood, Iredell, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Rowan, Surry, Swain, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin, Yancey.

The following threats include: A tornado or two, scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 MPH, and isolated large hail events to 1.5" in diameter.


This watch is in effect until 9:00 PM.


REMEMBER: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. If you are in these areas, be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
