Dangerously high temperatures and humidity could quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke if precautions are not taken. The urban areas around the Triangle, Fayetteville, Goldsboro and other cities are more vulnerable in a heat wave as they are known as heat islands, as they will be the even hotter during the day and the last to cool at night.

High temperatures and heat index values will last through Monday before a cold front brings relief. An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously high temperatures is likely. Prepare for extreme temperatures and high humidity which could result in heat illnesses. Take extra precautions if you must work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
