Another round of Winter Weather Expected Monday

WINTER WEATHER: Here we go again, another minor winter weather event is possible for parts of the state on Monday. To be honest, it once again does not look like a very promising event, and I don't expect too much snow in most places. The vast majority of the moisture will be in southern Virginia, where several inches of snow are likely. Here are my latest thoughts on a quick-moving clipper system that'll impact parts of North Carolina on Monday. There is no reason to panic or raid the grocery stores!
📌WHAT: The system will move into North Carolina on Monday morning. Moisture will move in from the West to the East on Monday morning. Most areas will start as rain, with rain changing to snow as the day goes on in the North. This setup, where cold air is moving in with the moisture and not already here, does not always work out very well in North Carolina! The upper-level trough will shift through on Monday, and most of the moisture and heavier snow looks to be in Southern Virginia! However, we will probably see some snow in North Carolina. I am being pretty conservative on this map because I am not overly convinced we will see too much snow.

📌: Let's break down the amounts (Light Green). A dusting to 2 inches is possible along the Northern sections of North Carolina from amount Mount Airy to Elizabeth City, down to about just North of Raleigh and Greensboro. Some spots could locally see more than 2 inches in this area, especially closer to Southern VA.
-Flakes to a Dusting is down (Light Blue) from Asheville to parts of Northeastern North Carolina, where snow will fall, but I am not expecting much accumulation at this point. Some spots could pick up an inch in spots on Monday afternoon/evening.
-2-5 Inches (Dark Blue): The higher elevations of the mountains will see a couple of inches of snow, including the High Country and the Smoky Mountains.
Red hatched area, some flakes could fly Monday afternoon, but at this point, not expecting really any accumulation, but can't rule out a limited spot or two with some accumulating snow in this area at this time.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Avery, Yancey, Mitchell, Ashe-Alleghany, Watauga-Surry-Stokes-Rockingham-Caswell-Wilkes-Yadkin-Person-Granville-Vance-Warren-Halifax-Forsyth-Guilford-Alamance-Orange-Durham-Franklin-Nash-Edgecombe-Wake-Johnston-Wilson-Northampton-Hertford-Gates-Bertie-Martin-Pitt-Washington-
🔴 Travel: In these counties listed above, there could be some slick travel in these areas, especially on Monday afternoon and evening on bridges and overpasses. Due to daytime snowfall and temperatures, this will also limit how much snow actually accumulates. However, Monday night into Tuesday morning a hard widesrpead freeze is likely statewide so any moisture left will freeze and cause widespread black ice Tuesday morning.
😎The Bottom Line: A limited winter weather event is expected across parts of North Carolina on Monday. The timing will start in the morning, west pushing east through the afternoon with rain changing to snow. Our track record with snow is not good right now, and this setup is hard to get a good amount of accumulating outside the mountains, but there is potential for at least some rain to change to snow on Monday. I am being very conservative with this; I don’t want to get people’s hopes up for nothing! However, for the snow lovers, the potential is there. I am trying to be as transparent as possible. Forecasting weather is a science, and this is a great example. I'll keep you posted!
