Accumulating Snow Likely for the NC Mountains.

Here comes more snow for the North Carolina Mountains; a strong northflow snow event is expected Sunday into Monday morning across parts of the North Carolina Mountains. It'll turn dangerously cold in the mountains, and high winds Sunday night will lead to Wind Chill Values below 0°. Make preparations now to stay warm. A Winter Storm Watch for Sunday into Monday has been issued for Swain, Graham, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, and Haywood Counties. A Winter Storm Weather Advisory has been issued for Ashe, Watauga, and Avery County. There is a high chance of accumulating snow and gusty winds in these counties.

Accumulation Mountains: 1-3 to 3-5 inches (mainly along the TN border communities) inches is expected for anyone above 2.500ft; some flakes could fly for the valleys with a low chance below 2.500. The big winners for snow are above 3,800ft into the Smokies and along the North Carolina-Tennessee border 5-8 inches+ inches like along the highest peaks, for example, the Smokies mountains, Mount Mitchell, the western facing ski resorts, and Blue Ridge Parkways. A few ridgetop locations will exceed 5+ inches, especially in the Smokies Clingmans Dome, and Max Patch Wolf Laurel, very high locations of the mountains Roan Mountain/ Carvers Gap. Snowfall amounts are highly dependent on elevation; the higher you are, the better. The lower you are in the valleys, little to no amounts.

The National Weather Service says: "The heavy snow will create snow covered roads and produce scattered power outages. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches"
